taft library
The remodeled library mixes a variety of uses in a casually integrated manner, utilizing each of the building “pods” for distinctly different uses while preserving the openness of the original floor plan. Each of the assembly function rooms can be acoustically isolated by closing glass doors simultaneously maintain the visual control required by the library staff. Colorful graphics, imaginative lighting and new book stacks and furniture will lend a contemporary “book-store” feel to the interior of the building. A central “reading room kiosk” will incorporate a lounge seating/reading area, popular books and magazines and OPAC computers. The irregular floor plan that once made the library inefficient is now used to reinforce the efficiency of the varied new uses in the small open space. The unique architectural character of the Taft Library is preserved and the building’s function has been adapted to the changing needs of the City of Orange.
