lake forest recreation center
Placed on a high plateau at the center of the Lake Forest Sports Park this 25,600 SF Recreation Center has a commanding view of the surrounding baseball and soccer fields and Saddleback Peak in the distance. The primary space in the facility is the 12,000 SF gymnasium that includes a high school regulation-size court with two junior-high standard cross-courts. Additionally, the space accommodates volleyball and a number of other indoor exercise activities. The building design incorporates porches with deep overhangs on the south and west elevations. All of the meeting and activity room spaces have access to shaded outdoor activity areas that enjoy spectacular views in all directions. A teaching kitchen is located off of one of the meeting rooms. The teen center activities are programmed in two spaces, a computer room/homework center and a large game room. The dance room incorporates both audio and video capabilities to support exercise and dance instruction classes. The building profile is defined by a broad sloping roof gesturing toward Saddleback Peak in the distance and uses forms found in many of the vernacular ranch buildings of the foothill area of the Saddleback Valley.
