lawndale community center
Located on a corner block in the Lawndale Civic Center, this three-story community center is designed to maximize the use of its small urban site and to complete the civic center complex. The building entry is located on the corner and is defined by a three story circular elevator lobby offering a visual connection to the City Hall, Library and Civic Plaza across the street. With parking located at grade, the community center program spaces are arranged on the second and third floors. A second floor terrace allows for the activities in the arts and crafts meeting rooms to expand to the exterior. The multi-purpose main event room and an outdoor terrace are located on the third floor to provide distant views to the Hollywood Hills and San Gabriel Mountains to the north. Porcelain tile, plaster, metal panels and sun louvers are combined to unify the building aesthetic with the existing City Hall and Library.
